I am a Chartered Architect in private practice based in Wiltshire. I have used BIM Authoring tools since 2000 on a wide range of projects, both new build and alterations and refurbishment/restoration of listed buildings. I joined BIM4Housing at its inception by Andrew Carpenter and took over the chairman’s role in 2015. Through that position I became closely involved with the establishment of the UKBIMA as acting Operations Lead for the first year. I sit on the IET’s Built Environment Panel providing architectural input to and learning from the world of technology. I am contributing to the BIM4HAs project developing a collection of Case Studies for distribution amongst the HA sector.

Das joined DMA in 2007 and focuses on innovation, quality and risk management throughout the practice. He leads strategic R&D projects to create new solutions and services underpinned by the use of digital tools and information.
Varun Soni – BIM Manager CalfordSeadon
Varun boasts 8 years’ experience in the industry and has been at calfordseaden since 2017. Throughout his academic and professional career, he has built a solid grounding in architecture, design, construction, and the implementation and use of BIM for design and construction projects. Varun is proactive in his approach to promoting BIM as an effective and efficient way of working in the industry from greater clarity and information management to a stronger understanding of the asset. Varun strongly advocates new digitalised methods of working to enable more digitalised areas in the industry, including an integration of AR and VR into BIM, more standardised delivery of information, and also an opportunity to bring greater value engineering and information management to construction and in particular to the housing sector.
Tom Cannon, MCIAT - Group BIM Manager at Hill Group UK.
Acting as both a developer and a contractor at Hill Group UK we are continuing our promise to delivering quality homes across the country. We see BIM as an importance in the industry and are currently implementing a new BIM strategy. It is my role to ensure that this new BIM strategy is implemented, and that efficiencies and quality are shared throughout the Group, as well as its clients, joint venture partners, and end users. We now live in a world of data, and our goal is to offer all relevant parties and the supply chain access to any single integrated source of data for any built asset. Through BIM the housing industry will continue to benefit from increased efficiencies, lower costs, and Improved communication from planning, right through construction to operational life cycle.
Karen Jones – Kingspan Insulation
Karen is the Residential Development Manager for Kingspan Insulation, focusing on long term strategy for developing products and services into the residential market. She has been in the construction industry for over 20 years, involved as a Contractor, Manufacturer and Distributor. Much of her work has been to understand the links between the different supply chain members and how best to collaborate in order to achieve the most suitable outcome for the build.
Nick Haughton - Head of Global Marketing at Sapphire Balconies
Nick originally joined The Sapphire Balconies in 2006 at the London office as an estimator. After relocating to the Reading office when it was established, Nick managed both the purchasing and marketing teams and progressed into managing the Reading Balustrade factory and the Winchester balcony factory. Following the significant growth in volume, Nick now focuses on where his passion and qualification lies and heads up both Sapphire's UK and Global Marketing teams, at the forefront of educating the market in best practise through the delivery of technical CPD presentations, early stage design meetings, events, and industry thought leadership.
Alex Small - BIM & Digital Platforms manager Tata Steel Europe.
This role involves the delivery of product information for Tata Steel’s European businesses as well as the digital reach and interlock of the business through its data. Although starting with product-specific data, Alex’s role is now looking at ways in which a wide-ranging array of data might be linked to physical products (through Tag & Track and Digital Twins) to add value for product traceability, circular economy and digital construction as a whole.
Alex is involved in work for the UK BIM Alliance and is part of their Product Data Working Group, he also represents worldsteel and UK steel in BIM standards committees. He is an active member of Constructing Excellence - chairing their manufacturing, technology and offsite theme group and sits of Construction Product Europe’s Digital Task Group. Alex is a keen advocate for structured data, IoT, DfMA, offsite construction and an integrated, digital, built environment.
Jack White– Clarion Housing
Jack currently works on a range of different projects in the Property Services team at Clarion. One key focus is on creating a digital record of assets in line with Hackitt’s recommendations. Jack has a background in sustainability and sees the potential environmental benefits that this system of asset management could bring.
Dave Emery - architectural technologist and BIM consultant
He helped deliver the first 5D projects in the UK and for more than a decade has been a public speaker at seminars, workshops, and training events. For the past year or so he has been working with the Supply Chain Sustainability School as a consultant project manager on a CITB-funded project entitled 'Improving Skills in Offsite Construction.

With a background in engineering and construction, hee chairs the 4D Construction Group, an industry group focused on 4D modelling and planning; runs Freeform, a 4D specialist consultancy; and is an advocate for digital construction. James has been building 4D models for 10 years and has worked on a wide range of major infrastructure and buildings projects.

Dan Macplerson – Henry Riley
Dan has 13 years’ experience working as a chartered Quantity Surveyor, Project Manager and Development Manager (and fulfilling the roles of CA/EA) on new build and refurbishment projects across residential, commercial, leisure/hospitality and recreational sectors. He is Head of Henry Riley’s National MMC Team, Head of Retirement and also Head of APC.
He has experience of Traditional, Design & Build and Construction Management procurement routes, a variety of contracts (including PPC2000 and the JCT suite), and numerous tender routes. Dan has worked on projects that have adopted various forms of MMC including LGSF volumetric modular, LGS panelised modular, CLT as well as traditional/MMC hybrid projects. He played a key role in establishing a retirement housing roll-out programme, adopting modular construction methods and is now working with both public and private sector clients to establish and implement their MMC and sustainability strategies.
Dr Kwadwo Oti-Sarpong
Dr Kwadwo Oti-Sarpong is a Research Associate at the Cambridge Centre for Housing and Planning Research, Department of Land Economy, University of Cambridge. He is part of a team investigating the non-technical inhibitors to an industry-wide uptake of digital technologies in the construction industry. This is part of the Centre for Digital Built Britain’s (CDBB) work within the Construction Innovation Hub which brings together world-class expertise from the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC), BRE and CDBB to transform the UK construction sector. His research seeks to understand why digital approaches have not yet become mainstream despite their widely acknowledged benefits, and to make suggestions as to how industry-wide changes can be made. Additionally, the research explores how emerging digital technologies can be integrated with off-site manufacturing (OSM) to increase the potential for widespread uptake in the UK construction industry. Prior to joining the University of Cambridge, he worked as a Researcher in the Department of Real Estate & Construction at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) where he obtained his PhD in Construction Technology and Project Management. Areas of research that are of interest to him include the shaping and evolution of technology in project settings and across contexts, and the implications new technologies hold for institutional, inter- and intra- organisational and project level developments.
